Last night, just hours before midnight, the House of Representatives voted to approve the Senate’s version of a Fiscal Cliff avoidance bill. Of course, the deadline was the day before, so I guess the bill that was passed tonight was more of a “pulling us back up after going over the cliff.”

Monday was Labor Day, so focusing on jobs seemed natural. Of course, the fact that the August jobs numbers revealed that NO new net jobs were created in August and that the government revised the June and July numbers down, giving us the Summer of Unemployment guaranteed that we would spend our entire show examining what our leaders are proposing the government do to speed up job growth. The nation finally saw a real debate between the growing crowd of Republicans vying to help President Obama join the ranks of the unemployed. Bachmann and Pawlenty traded repeated, pointed jabs while Santorum chided Paul about foreign policy on Thursday in Ames, Iowa. On Saturday’s show, we broke down some of the highlights of the debate. We spent a good bit of Saturday’s show focused on taxes. After a brief memorial from Eric for the man that was like a father to him growing us, Jason started us off by talking about an exchange a CNN reporter and Republican Congressman from Georgia had had earlier in the week. The reporter showed the Congressman a graph from the Wall Street Journal that indicated that, contrary to the view Georgian Representative, tax increases do not always harm the economy. (more…)

Saturday’s show was all about the economy and education.
We began the show praising our governor for her tenacity and effectiveness in bringing jobs to South Carolina. Even though Amazon.com took its ball and left South Carolina when the Legislature rightly refused to top the impressive package of incentives that Lexington County and the state had already given Amazon with the unjust sales tax exemption, Governor Haley was able to announce 3 significant job providing investments in the state.
