Have a Grateful Memorial Day!
Earlier, I was thinking about wishing someone a “Happy Memorial Day,” and I was struck by how odd that expression feels. Memorial Day is a day to honor those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our great nation. They gave all so we could enjoy all we enjoy today. Saying “Happy Memorial Day” seems flippant and fails to express what this day should be about.
I am happy that throughout out history men and women felt the call to leave home, hearth and family to stand in the gap in my place. I am happy to be living in an amazing country that their sacrifice helped create, but it is more than happiness. When I really get to the bottom of what I am feeling, it’s gratitude, deep profound gratitude for these wonderful men and women.
So from now on, I will be greeting everyone with “Have a grateful Memorial Day!’ Won’t you join me?
