A bustling kitchen full of eager volunteers and a beautiful, modern assisted living facility’s sitting room as seniors gathered were the setting for my two Leap Day volunteering opportunities.
My first stop of the day was at the Bi-Lo near my house to “rescue” some delicious looking baked goods: pies, cakes, cup cakes and a various assortment of breads. I love the expression “rescuing food,” probably because I LOVE food and the thought that I was saving food for someone else to enjoy is satisfying.
It took mere minutes to take the grocery cart of goodies and load it into my van, then I was off to the Greer Soup Kitchen, where I found a busy kitchen prepping lunch. (more…)
